Subject: Available Grand Canyon River Launch Dates

Dear Thomas Martin,

Another lottery has just been opened. This one has twelve launch dates available for launches from October through December of this year. The lottery will only be open though tomorrow (Thursday, 9/18/200 at 2:00 pm MST.

To keep their trips, winners will be required to pay their $400 trip deposits by 10:00 a.m. on 9/22/2008. If you apply, please log back into the system over the weekend to check the status of your request.

Note, we are rushing this lottery because of budget constraints relating to the current Fiscal Year ending September 30th. If any of these dates are not awarded through this lottery, a subsequent lottery will be held early in October.

You can find a listing of available launch dates at http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/cancelled-dates.htm.

If you are interested in obtaining a launch but would rather not receive email announcements about winter launch dates, please update the email preferences you listed in your profile. To do this, just login and click on Edit Contact Information. If you need any assistance, please ask. We are happy to help.

Steve Sullivan

ya know I'd be glad to try for another permit this year if the canyon would allow more than one trip a year per person! I think it's ridiiculous that they can't fill the permits and won't allow people to go more than once a year. My two cents

26 hours and some change.............is this the shortest lottery notice to date?

Looking more and more like those Winter launch dates should be first come....first serve.

I agree that it was very short notice, but (correct me if I'm wrong) all the dates were taken from the previous lotteries. For the 9/3 lottery all four dates were awarded. The dates that came available were because of cancellations between the last lottery (early Sept) and now. So it is not an issue of filling permits.

I'm upset with people that hold on to a date so long that it becomes last minute to the person eventually awarded a trip. Sometimes things are out of your control, but cancelling at the last minute isn't fair to all the others waiting.
