Grand Canyon lottery time again, with the added feature of a call-in for any unclaimed dates.
Dear [name], (user name: )
We are writing to let you know that two lotteries will be open for the
next week, one for cancelled 2007 dates and the other for cancelled
2008 dates. Both of these lotteries will accept applications through
the lottery website from November 30th, 2007 through noon on December 5th, 2007. If you are NOT committed to accepting one of these launches, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. If you win a launch through the lottery, your CHANCES ARE AUTOMATICALLY RESET TO 1. Chances are not reset if you lose.
Listing a Potential Alternate Trip Leader is also important; if you win and end up not being able to go, your trip will be cancelled unless you listed a PATL on your lottery application who will agree to take over your trip. Once an application wins, the list of potential alternate trip leaders (PATLs) for that trip cannot be changed. We strongly encourage all who choose to apply to LIST AT LEAST ONE PATL ON THE LOTTERY APPLICATION.
The 2007 follow-up lottery includes a total of 4 launch dates which
are for standard size groups (1 to 16 people):
December 2007: 11th, 16th, 25th, and 26th
The 2008 follow-up lottery includes a total of 19 launch dates which
are all for standard size groups (1 to 16 people):
January 2008: 1st, 2nd, 14th, 15th, 17th, 21st, and 24th
February 2008: 2nd, 9th, 23rd, 29th
March 2008: 8th, 26th
November 2008: 6th
December 2008: 12th, 14th, 17th, 22nd, and 26th
If any of the December 2007 through February 2008 launch dates offered through this lottery remain unclaimed after the lottery, they will be made available to the first interested live caller contacting the
River Permits Office on December 10th or later who meets the
one-trip-per-year limitation and other normal requirements. These
launch opportunities will be advertised through our website and
cancellation phone line by the December 8th weekend.
If you are interested in one of these launches, please login at
and click on "Create Application" under the
lottery for which you wish to apply. Individuals are eligible to apply in one or both lotteries as long as they are at least 18 years old and not already members of other noncommercial or commercial trips launching in the same calendar year as the desired launch date. No person may be listed on more than 1 application within any year's lottery. The lottery drawings will take place in the afternoon of December 5th, and email notifications will be sent by December 6th.
