I'm sure this is already on here but I could not find it...
Can anyone recommend any guides/company for the grand canyon? I would like to kayak while the gf rafts. just starting my research and any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Canyon Explorations/Expeditions may have some kayak spots. Arizona Raft Adventures may as well, but the AzRA trip I saw on the water was a charter. It may not be a regular thing. Can-X requires a minimum of four kayakers for any to go on a trip . The NPS also requires a kayak guide for any paddlers. Colorado River and Trails Expeditions runs one kayak trip a year. Do some research and I'm sure you'll find something. Check out www.gcroa.org, find the outfitters tab, and click your way through there.
Or get a private permit, and it will be a lot cheaper than a guided trip.
I got one, and have been looking for a ducky partner for next spring in the big ditch, so far no luck. Guess everyone is smarter than I am!
My son and I did an Otter Bar trip which was run through AZRA. 17 or so kayakers and 2-5 folks on the rafts. 1 kayak guide from OB, one from AZRAI thought they did a bang up job if you can get comfortable with pretty basic guidance through the meat. It's not an instructional trip it's a guided trip.
It was 14 days and we were able to do a medium to long hike almost every day.
I'd go again every year if I could. I've heard dereimer adventure kayak does more instructional trips; might try that sometime too.
I think you'll find that any company is going to run a great trip. All of the guides are incredibly knowledgeable. If I were to tell you who I thought was best it would be Can-X, but I've done enough trips for different companies to know that everyone runs a great trip, just find what you are looking for and you'll have a great trip.
