Subject: Grand Canyon Lottery: 9 launches in 2008
Dear, (user name: )
We are writing to let you know that a lottery will be open for the next week for cancelled 2008 dates. This lottery will accept applications through the lottery website from March 6, 2008 through noon on March 11, 2008. If you are NOT committed to accepting one of these launches, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. If you win a launch through the lottery, your CHANCES ARE AUTOMATICALLY RESET TO 1. Chances are not reset if you lose. Listing a Potential Alternate Trip Leader is also important; if you win and end up not being able to go, your trip will be cancelled unless you listed a PATL on your lottery application who will agree to take over your trip. Once an application wins, the list of potential alternate trip leaders (PATLs) for that trip cannot be changed. We strongly encourage all who choose to apply to LIST AT LEAST ONE PATL ON THE LOTTERY APPLICATION.
Before you apply, please make sure you are committed to accepting any launch date which you list on your application - you are risking your lottery chances. Applicants and Potential Alternate Trip Leaders (PATLs) listed on winning lottery applications lose all their chances whether or not they end up going on the trip. Your chances are not affected if you do not apply or if you apply and do not win.
Applicants are also strongly encouraged to list at least one PATL on their lottery application. This is important because PATLs cannot be listed later, even if you win. Listing at least one PATL on your application is the only way you can protect your trip and your participants against the chance that something might come up in your life that ends up preventing you from going on your trip. If you do not list a PATL on your lottery application, win a trip, but then can't go, your trip will have to be cancelled. We strongly encourage all who choose to apply to list at least one PATL on the lottery application.
This lottery includes a total of 8 standard size launches (1 to 16 people) and 1 small size launch (1 - 8 people):
Standard Sized Launches:
March 2008: 21st
April 2008: 22nd, 26th
May 2008: 11th, 22nd, 28th
December 2008: 5th, 12th
Small Sized Launch:
July 2008: 5th
Please note, if you apply for and win the March 21st launch date, you will be required to pay the deposit by noon on March 13th. If this launch is unclaimed, it will remain available for the first caller on a first-come first-served basis starting 8:00 am on 3/12/2008 through the River Permit Office phone line at 800-959-9164. This launch date will only be released to a live caller - you cannot request a date via a voice mail message. The one-trip-per year rule and all other normal requirements will apply.
If you are interested in one of these launches, please login at https://npspermits.us and click on "Create Application" under the lottery for which you wish to apply. Individuals are eligible to apply in the lottery as long as they are at least 18 years old and not already members of other noncommercial or commercial trips launching in the same calendar year as the desired launch date. No person may be listed on more than 1 application within any individual lottery. The lottery drawings will take place in the afternoon of January 23rd, and email notifications will be sent by January 24th.
If you cannot remember your password, you can have it reset and sent to the email address you listed in your lottery profile by completing the form at:
https://npspermits.us/grandcanyon/river/forgotLogin.cfm. If you need help submitting an application online or navigating the website, please send us an email to email@example.com or call 1-800-959-9164. We are happy to help.
The River Office is open weekdays from 8am to 5pm.
You have been sent this courtesy email in response to the preferences you indicated when setting up your profile which has a username of "Ouramericanheritage". You can change your preferences, address, and email accounts any time by logging into your account.
In the lottery system, people may each have only one account. A LOTTERY WINNER HAVING MORE THAN ONE ACCOUNT MAY HAVE THEIR WINNING TRIP REVOKED. If you have two profiles on the system or you received two or more emails listing different login names then this issue must be resolved prior to the lottery. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, include the login name of the profile you want deleted, and ask us to delete the account).
We wish good luck to all who apply.
P.S. We expect to hold a follow-up lottery in a couple weeks for
unclaimed 2009 launch dates.
The 2010 Main Lottery will occur next year in February.

Notifications about Lotteries:
Each year in February a main lottery is held to assign launch dates for river trips occurring the next year. Public notifications regarding main lotteries are made by both email and press release. In addition to the annual main lottery, follow-up lotteries are held as needed throughout the remainder of the year to reassign cancelled and/or left-over river trips.
Public notifications for these follow-up lotteries are made solely through email.
The weighted lottery website can be accessed for free year-round to create or modify an account and to sign-up to receive email notifications.
Individuals who are interested in a future river permit are strongly encouraged to create an account. Lottery applications are accepted through the weighted lottery website only when lotteries are open.
