I think I saw somebody take count's line at the race last year. If I understand correctly, you run the sneak, then come out of the eddy too high above the FU rock, and then get pushed into ginger (or somehow escape).

If that line isn't named, I'll nominate... the "Blunder to Chunder" line. Throw a couple ends in ginger to add style points!

Yo Savage, fill in the details of the rock smash to paddle break line.

Glad everyone's OK...

I was on the rock thinking, hum why is he over there? Oh rock! ummmm, well, I guess that works.
Then the weird part was no one tried to follow that line.
I've taken that line at 350 cfs when Gore rapid is sort of a creeky rock garden. At that level you can get out to that rock in the middle to stand on it. At that level I also saw someone take the left line and catch the an eddy over near where the sneak lands.

I think the Count's story of running a diagonal line from right to left has trumped me going through Gore upside down holding a broken paddle.

Actually, I have to keep working right now to get some critical things finished this week, but I will come back and post something well thought out in a day or two, explaining what happened and to introduce some issues to be aware of when trying to take the far right line (I refuse to call that line a sneak) in Gore Rapid.

I wish someone was shooting video though. Christine said she saw me with the missing paddle blade floating beside me while I was still in the boat. I was in a state of denial about my blade being broken off, and as I was floating down the rapid upside down, you could see me finally reaching out with my hand to feel and confirm that the blade was indeed snapped off. A photo or video of me upside down in Gore Rapid with a blade floating beside me and my hand feeling for the missing part would have been priceless to me.

The funny thing is that until I convinced myself the paddle was broken, I was actually pretty cool and mellow about everything. That serenity was not to last...

To everyone who asked about the video clips from that day, I am afraid they did turn out to be too big for email. I will email everyone who contacted me soon with ftp or CD in the mail options.

No way dude. Carnage always trumps the clean line when storytelling.

Okay, maybe clean isn't the right adjective. I was going to take the normal line on the sneak, caught a funky surge in the pool and was lined up at the top of the eddy. So I said "what the Hell, this looks like fun" and took a couple of good strokes to pull out and slice around Ginger. From there it was just more of "hmmm, let's see where I can end up." It was clean in the way that did no rolling, surfing, or bracing. It was most certainly not clean if you're talking about the fact that I did not end up where I originally intended. That being said, it was kind of a neat line and I might try it again sometime.

Confucius Says:Paddler in Ginger likely soon be swimmer in Pyrite. (Ancient Chinese Proverb I just made up).
