Is there any way to watch the action for non class v boaters? Is it possible to paddle to the entrance of the canyon and then back up? I've only driven by in the past but would love to check it out.

^^^not really. Hopefully the organizers will post up what the deal is with the railroad tracks. You can get up to Kirshbaum on river left if you are comfortable with some swimming, wading and cliff walking. I'll let you look at a map, figure out where the public access is and determine if you've got the appropriate sense of adventure.

Yeah, jamie is right. the only options is to hike up the gore canyon trail from Pumphouse. Everyone must stay of the railroad tracks. The trail is river left and you can hike to the top of Kirschbaum, the last rapid, but then the canyon cliffs out. The finish line is at the bottom of Kirsch and usually has a few hike-in spectators hanging out.

Will there be shuttles from pumphouse back to rancho after the race? If not I'm debating setting a double shuttle vs. paddling to rancho. Anyone know how many river miles it is from gore to rancho? Never paddled that far down.

Yes, the buses that drop you off will be at Pumphouse to pick you back up and take you back to Rancho. The float is about 10 miles.

It is about 7-9 miles of flat water, it is a 4 or so from pump house to radium and 5 or so more miles to rancho. It would be a stout day.

Gore fest was a good time! Nice work to the folks who put in on. I thought rancho was a good place to camp and party. Better site for the large group of folks than pumphouse in my opinion. Organizers did a good job tightening up loose ends from years past. The sat night band was really good.

Public service announcement... bring a breakdown paddle on gore, scout gore if you have never looked at it, and don't plan on racing gore if you are inexperienced but think its a good idea because "there is good safety". You can still get the living shit kicked out of you before safety even starts to throw a rope!
