Closures due to Gore Race and participant/spectator information
River Access Closures:
Please be aware that the BLM will have a couple of closures this weekend to support the Gore Canyon Race. First, the access road to the put-in for Gore Canyon will be closed to public use on Saturday morning, August 18th, starting at 9 am. You will be able to access the put-in by using a shuttle bus provided by the event organizer. You can catch the shuttle buses at Pumphouse from 9 am to noon. The closure will be in effect until 3PM on Saturday.
The second closure will be at the Launch #3 area at Pumphouse. This is the launch that is the furthest downstream. Starting on Friday, August 17th, at 1 pm, Launch #3 will be closed to public use. The Launch #3 area will be used for parking and staging for the event. The closure will be in effect until noon on Sunday, August 23rd. Only race participants, spectators, and event personnel will be allowed into the area during the closure. Launch #1 and #2 will remain open to the public and commercial boaters, but please be aware that these areas will be very crowded.
If you are a spectator or participant of the Gore Race, you need to park in the Launch #3 area. We want to keep Launch #1 and #2 open for boaters and other users that are not connected with the race. Please do not park in the main parking lot between Launch #1 and #2. Areas where you will be allowed to park will be marked. The event organizer will have people directing traffic and answering questions when you drive into Pumphouse. Please keep your vehicles in the designated parking areas and do not block the road. Vehicles that block access will be towed. All vehicles will be required to have a valid day use pass ($3 per vehicle per day).
Camping for participants and spectators will also be downstream from the Launch #3 area. Please do not camp in the campground adjacent to the main parking lot. We want to keep those sites available to visitors not connected to the race. Spectators and participants that camp overnight will be using the two group site areas and the new campground area downstream from Launch #3. Walk-in dispersed camping will be allowed in the Launch #3 area, away from the parking areas. Please pay at least $1 per person per night (above the $3 vehicle fee) if you intend to camp. Camping money should be placed in fee envelope. All camping money will help race organizer pay for $200 assigned site fee.
Campfires are allowed at the developed campsites where metal fire rings are provided. All other fires are prohibited.
Dispersed camping will be available at the usual sites along Trough Road. Remember to use sustainable camping practices: use established sites; keep your vehicle on existing roads; use a landfill-approved bag system to pack out human waste and toilet paper; and pack out all your trash.
Dogs: All dogs must be kept on a leash within the recreation site. Please clean up after your pet.
LASTLY, remember to stay river left if scouting is necessary. We MUST STAY OFF THE RAILROAD!
