Everyone is welcome. We have lots of donated pet stuff from Gold'n Paws this year so bring your mutt. 'Best Dog' winner will receive a nice prize on Wednesday June 18th.
That same night we'll have Sweet Leaf Tea there giving out tea and tea-shirts too.

By the time you read this it'll be two days from the start of the second night of the Golden Community Kayak Rodeo.
Last week we saw:
Spectators: 150
Competitors: 32
After party: 24
Vendors: 4

Max, Lyle and Renaissance Adventure Guides had somewhere between 25-40 kids on the pond and 10-15 persons ran the play park in duckies. This week should be even bigger, just like the water!

Competitors, we have Boater X coming up along with a prize for 'best swim' and 'oldest Kayak' this week. See you all soon.

Wow what a great event we enjoyed for the second night of the four night Golden Community Kayak Rodeo!
We had a great turnout Wednesday despite not having perfect Colorado weather. It's obvious that kayak fans and competitors will not be deterred, especially when we had 5 tents to hide under during the brief rainshower. Hopefully, this means that we'll have more people next week cheering the newbie through expert playboaters. The downriver race was exciting too with some '8-Ball' boaters to get in their way.

Thanks to Loki and Golden River Sports for setting up their shops on the banks of Clear Creek too. Dagger / WaveSport were there supporting us in person too with many thanks to Hobie for being the MC! Without our partners, we couldn't give away so many prizes to competitors and spectators. So come out this coming Wednesday and the following Wednesday evening. We'll have some free drinks (no not that kind) from Joint Juice on the 11th and some more on the 18th. We'll also have some free Sweet Leaf Tea on the final night. So quench your thirst at the very least!

This coming Wednesday, we have special prizes for...
Best Costume
Lowest Score
Best Spectator

Hello all:
There's only one more night left for you to come out and cheer on your friends and extended kayak family! So make sure you sign up for spectator prizes when you arrive at the Golden Play Park. Come to the final party at Blue Canyon Bar and Grill in Golden and you'll get to see who wins the kayak and the paddle and all the prizes earned over the 4 weeks of competition. We couldn't do it without our partners in the kayak and local Golden / Boulder / Denver community, so show them your support by visiting their businesses. Tell them the Golden Community Kayak Rodeo sent you!

Anyway, the third night had a huge turnout along with some great sunshine. We had 35 competitors being cheered on by about 300 spectators, entertained by Reed Koenecke's excellent MC skills. Fat Jack's subs fed as many as they could. Outdoor Divas set up a kiosk. Spyderco Knives had a tent as did Alpenglow. gave us two pairs of Mountain Khakis and will be giving us two more pairs this coming week. If you don't win a pair, you can find them at Confluence Kayaks in Denver, our title sponsor. Say thanks to them when you try a pair on because they are also giving us a new playboat as a prize!

And we had to halt to rodeo briefly at times to let Renaissance Adventure Guides take 35 riders for free down through the Golden Play Park in duckies, when they weren't letting people float around in the pond. (They'll be there this coming Wednesday too). And don't forget to take some photos and develop them at Mike's Camera in Boulder or Denver. You should have seen Lainey win the costume contest with her body and her entire boat turned into Nemo from the Disney movie! Will Nemo make another appearance in Golden next Wednesday? There only one way for you to find out!

This week's contests...
Boater X (3 persons per team)
Farthest Travel
Best Dog

Hey Christine!
I'm not sure about CDs. However the t-shirts are $15 each and are super fly looking! I think we only printed 30 so bring your cash to me early to get your size. Checks are acceptable too.

Golden Community Kayak Rodeo 2008 - Final Night (4 of 4)

Hello all:

The Golden Community Kayak Rodeo Series was a smashing success. In 2008, we put the 'unity' in the 'Community' of kayaking and local businesses. With a huge spectator turn out and an increase in community businesses partnering with us, we expect an even bigger and better series next year. Watch the video from the Denver Post here:
Default Viral Title Player
Find the results and photos here:

The kayak from Confluence Kayaks went to: Sarah Dodge
The kayak from Dagger / WaveSport went to: Christine Clark
The paddle went to: Matt Ryan
The winners won their prizes by finishing at the top of their division then by random drawing.

So everyone needs to come out and compete next year and give yourselves a shot at some great prizes! Thanks to Lori Kingsbury for getting the majority of the restaurants (and lingerie shop) to partner with us this year along with a myriad of organizational tasks. The same thanks goes to Christy Mullins for her admin endeavors too! And special thanks for
help from Laura Baumgartner, Laurie Maciag, Megan Laire, and Len Eckstein for doing all the graphic work including the fantastic, welded, river rock trophies! Colorado Whitewater deserves thanks for giving us additional resources too.

So there's a lot more water left to paddle so get to your local shop get your gear, and then if you are hungry, need hardware, lingerie, pet products, etc. visit our sponsors below.
Confluence Kayaks
Sweet Leaf Tea
Renaissance Adventure Guides (
Even though Joint Juice couldn't make it with a tent, just about everyone got to try their product over a 3 week period!

Next year we'd like to partner with even more sponsors from the local community contributing products and samples or their wares. So if you have any suggestions, let us know and SYOTR! -- Greg Kyle
