I lived there (on Oahu) for 5 years and never saw a playboat, the only kayakers I saw were guys with boats specifically made for wave surfing, fiberglass with fins but looked similar to your new playboats. Whenever I took my boat out people looked at me like I was from another planet. Good luck but from my experience your chances are slim, I would recommend renting a surf board and giving it a go. I can give you advice on where to go if you would like.

NMT, thanks for the info.. I kind of figured that is what I might get. Any chance you know anyone there that has a playboat? I am ready to pay money for a boat. Kayak season is starting soon here in CO and need to get in the water.

Unfortunately I don't know anybody with a play boat over there. I understand the need to get in a boat but you know the saying, when in Rome. Nothing compares to board surfing in my opinion, give it a shot.

I happen to be in hawaii right now. I'm on Oahu. I passed a shop today that looked like it had playboats. It was Go Bannanas on Kaphulu road, near wakiki. Good luck!

I was in Kauai a few weeks ago and I saw what looked like some fun rapids on the Waiameia River (sp?) looking way down into the valley from the canyon road. Hard to tell from that far away, maybe it was class III? Also had a shit ton 'o rain too, so maybe not always there?

I just got back from hawaii too. Before I went, I looked really hard for kayaking opportunities. If you can find a boat good for surf kayaking I bet it would be a lot of fun. I saw one guy out with a long fiberglass boat, and it looked like a blast. With that said, its probably a pain in the butt getting the boat stuff taken care off. Might as well get a mask/snorkel, or rent a surfboard and do the stuff that you can really do well in Hawaii. In the end I figured I would pass on kayaking as I can do that in colorado. You will have fun either way I am sure. Also it depends on which island. The only one that I found was on Oahu (go bananas). If you want more info, go to boater talk and do some searches there. Several threads in the past.
