Glenwood WW Park Meeting Thursday 7:00pm Community Center

Here we go again but with way more support. The GSWWPark Task force will be making a presentation before the Town this Thursday at 7:00pm. A strong showing from the boating community would be powerful. The Task force is looking at a location just down stream from the West Glenwood Bridge behind Conoco sort of. There are lots of benefits to this location. Come find out what is going on and tell the town that you support it.

Can't make it out to Glenwood on a weekday, but if there is a place to write or call to support, I would be all for it. The colorado at glenwood is probably one of the best places in the state to have a park from the stable water flow and length of season perspective. Its gonna have to be beefy to handle the 7000+ cfs high water though. Any info on plans? Will it cater to high water, or the normal 1000-2000 cfs late and early season, or both?

I just uploaded a rendering into the freestyle gallery by Nick Turner at Hydraulic Design Group. http://www.mountainbuzz.com/album_page.php?pic_id=897 On the photo he says that the target flows will be between 1500 and 4000 which makes sense because when it is 7000- 10000 we all have better things to do. But all this is in the design phase still so input would be great.

Is it going to be one feature, or is that just the idea to present to folks? Hopefully there will be more than one. If you guys are looking for ideas, one thing that I really like about Golden is the large rocks to eddy behind to practice eddy turns, peelouts, and maybe do some squirts. Thats really good for teaching new folks. This may be tricky in the colorado as its deep, but maybe you could move a few big ones around closer to shore.

I also like the salida setup with the easier hole and the more advanced hole. Its nice to have an easier wave for beginners as well as a more retentive feature for more advanced paddlers, plus more features = more rides and shorter lines.

Another thing to think about would be some sort of feature good in the low 1000-1200 range. It seems like shoshone spends a lot of time under 1500 in the shoulder seasons, and thats the time when everything else is gone. It would be a shame to get a park that fizzled below 1500 when there is still a lot of water and energy.

Good luck!

I just looked at the USGS flow site and at the proposed the colorado hasn't been below 1600 in the past 31 days.

I agree that we should try to make a high water feature. It would be sick to have a wave and/or hole at 7000+ to huck around in.

I am aware that the design must allow for a sneak line so family rafters and drift boats don't get trashed, but I believe there are designs out there that can accomodate everyone.

Dont worry.... These are paid professionals that realize the Roaring Fork River comes in below shoshone and above the perposed site. So it aint gona fizzle under 1500 very often. But good question, can man made features withstand a blast of 7000 all the way up to 15,000 cfs on a good year and not blow out the pysical structure? Man I hope so. This park is going to be soooo sweet!!!!!! Year round goodness.
Powder to the people.

We are shooting for one feature to get something in the water and build on it. The trail that goes across the pedestrian bridge is going all the way to South Canyon and beyond. There is possibility for future expansion but we are just trying to get something in place and then build on it. I am with you on the many features, smaller lines issue. But the task force is thinking of this as a starting point to show the town what it is like. Just come out.

Duh! I forgot that west glenwood is downstream of the roaring fork, so scrap the 1000-1200 question. Sorry! Good luck with getting the project off the ground and thanks for the answers about the number of features and getting the project off the ground.
