You may want to consider taking your friend on Deckers first. Yea, it's only class II, but it's pretty and a good confidence builder. The Chute rapid is tricky and class III, but it's short with a huge flat pool at the bottom to give a beginner confidence in his river roll.

I think Foxton will be fine. I've seen him run big class IV back in the midwest and roll up mid-currents. He's also creeked class IV before and has a VERY solid brace. Like I said, he hits his roll 50/50, but he hasn't boated in a while and wants something to whet his whistle. He's only out for a couple of weeks and wants to taste some real CO boating.

Also, we are *probably* going Saturday a.m. but no one we are going with knows the lines. One boater is extremely experienced, then I'm more in the middle and my buddy is on the low end of intermediate with a touch of beginner. So, we have a good, colorful crew, and I think we can find the lines easily enough.

Given what you are describing, why not deckers the first day and follow up with foxton on the 2nd day? I am leaning basil's direction on this one. There are some warning bells going off in your post but its your choice. Real Colorado boating can be defined many ways but the best way to look at it is having a good time with your buds on the river. Be safe, have fun.

I'd love to go out 2 days in a row! I've got half a day.

Foxton sounds like the ticket!
