flat water roll practice near Fort Collins?

I just picked up a C1 and need some roll practice. Where's a good place for some practice near Fort Collins? It looks like you can buy a permit for Horsetooth Res, but can you launch anywhere?

generally speaking, there's a pool/eddy that forms below the Filter Plant takeout on the poudre near the mouth of the canyon. It's there at most flows and should be enough to roll in.

Use the small gravel pit lakes. If you're worried about the man giving you trouble in the guys that have designated natural areas surrounding them you can use lake sherwood. It's a private lake that I live on and no one cares. Timberline and Drake are the nearest crossroads.
