My buddy is looking for his first kayak he is 6'1 but only 140 lbs so he is in the low end of weight classes and was wondering good small kayaks that will accommodate to his height
What does he want to do with it? Freestyle play parks, down river, creeking? Is it a goal to run a waterfall? Is he just going to take it to the lake on the weekends? Need more info to give you an appropriate set of options....
I assume he wants to learn how to kayak! Just going by his weight he would need a size small kayak from most manufactures. But he is too tall for any of them. So I would look at a mamba 8.1
It's ok to be under weight in the boat. You'll have more issues when you want to learn to cartwheel a playboat, but not when learning or creeking. I'd suggest looking for a used boat at first, until you learn to paddle better. When first learning, people seem to love extreme primary stability, but after they get better, 2ndary stability and other characteristics become more important to them.
Good boats to learn in:
Dagger Mamba 8.1
Liquid Logic Remix (not sure on size)
Pyranha Burn M/L
Jackson Zen M/L
If you want to be more aggressive:
Jackson Fun or 4 Fun
Pyranha Loki
Wave sport Fuse
