I've always said that Texas was the next promise land of whitewater exploration! I wonder why no one boats there!?

I paddled yesterday and usually get 1-2 days a week in 68 degree spring fed water year round. Then again, I also drive 12 hours to get anything above Class III.

I have to give the credit to my brother Matt. He's got encyclopedic knowledge of Texas botany and even said the picture is probably from 2010 after TS Alex. It's a beautiful area. Just downstream is Lake Amistad which is my favorite lake in Texas. I would still like to get a first d on Alamito.

DS, you left us a few first d's down here but they're all logistical nightmares, many requiring luck, shit tons of rain, and the ability to be invisible.

Hope you're doing well and getting some pow days.

Did a new years trip on the Rio Grande through Big Bend many years ago; very nice, class 2-3.
Hit a blizzard and camped next to a natural hot spring; spent a day sitting in it with only our heads and a beer laden hand exposed while 6" of snow covered everything.

The next day saw Federal es riding our way (really, on horses!) as we were packing up; made a quick and strategic withdrawal to the US side of the river, cause, you know, we had a whammy can full of..........things the Federal es would have confiscated, along with us and our gear.

That was a great adventure!
