As a former race coordinator of the Pine Creek race, I strongly suggest that you consider never, ever, allowing Topo Duos to race. Safety/gear collection for regular creek boats, after paddlers get stomped in the hole and swim, is already difficult enough. I can't imagine the hellish headache it would cause the safety team who would have to rescue 2 people and 2 paddles and then try to bulldoze one of those monster boats to shore. If I remember correctly, out of all the previous races we had 2 racers swim at the same time only once, and it was not a pretty scenario (I think one guy thought he was going to drown after a really long swim, and the other guys boat went all the way down to #4). Also, keep in mind that your biggest race delays will be the result of safety teams having to reset their positions after chasing gear a 1/4 of mile downstream.
I hope you get all of the safety kayakers you need! I would love to help out this year, but I have class on Thursday's. However, I may try to ditch class that day if I have no tests. I'll get in touch with you when the time gets closer if I can help out.
