Encampment Road?

called the Forest Service today - they said there is no way the road will be open before Memorial Day and that we should expect it to open around June 10th

not sure what way you want to get in, but you can get to commissary park/hog park from riverside/encampment via the blackhall mountain road. from hog park out the "normal" way to encampment is still drifted in. not sure about the road down to cowdry. i was through there on sunday-river looked great.

is the road one that could be sledded?
(I've never been there, so I don't know the topography of the area)

how far up would you have to go from where it's closed?

The Blackhall Mt Rd works fine if it is really open Wyosam, did you actually go in all the way to the put in? If not, I'd get confirmation before heading up there. The river is at a good level right now. USGS site Encampment River ab Hog Park Cr ..anything 3.5 to 4 is great The campground folks will run that shuttle and it's well worth it. They may know if it's open or not.

yeah, its actually open. i went clear through. i've got nowhere near the skills to do the encampment-but i'm assuming you put in at commissary park, beautiful right now, lots of elk in the meadows too. the encampment is actually what got me interested in paddle sports-last year 4th of july weekend i was heading down the encampment for a hike with my 4 yr old daughter on my shoulders.we watched a group go under the foot bridge at hog park creek. looked like a blast.

Bump. Is the main road open? This could be a sunday option.
