Unless you get really lucky with rain, there won't be a lot running naturally that time of year.
Fortunately, Gauley season is the first 6 weekends after Labor Day. It runs Fri-Mon the first 5, and just Sat-Sun on the final weekend.
Green often runs that time of year as long as things aren't terminally dry. I would go to Asheville area and plan on running the Green, hitting other stuff if it rains, and commuting to the Gauley (4.5 hours) on some weekends to mix it up.
October has releases on the Russel Fork, and Moose if you want to drive pretty far north.
Ocoee runs weekends through the first weekend in November, and Tallulah runs the first 3 weekends of November as long as this worst drought in history is over by this time next year.
