Early season front range beginner runs

I have a friend who has graduated from the pool classes this last winter and is itching to get out on the river for the first time. I'm a class IV boater, but new to the area.

It looks like the Deckers run on the S Platte is flowing, and that Filter Plant up on the Poudre is also runnable. Other than being icy cold, are either of these suitable in the next week or two once yesterday's snow melts off? Do you recommend one over the other?

I assume it may be a few weeks before Golden ww park is running. Any other front range beginner runs we should be looking at? I'm familiar with the class II runs in Glenwood Springs (Grizzly down and Cemetery) and on the Ark, but because of the long drives, those are a bit more of a full day excursion than a half day.

Union Chutes are in my opinion easier for beginners though not cleaner. Deckers is really good and much closer than the Poudre and the chutes at the end of the trip makes for a fun end with easy cleanup at the bottom. A friend and I were just talking about how Golden isn't that noob friendly and we were talking about how exciting it gets down there when the flows are high.
