Hey guys, I'd like to see some interest from the boating community on this project. The Eagle River Watershed Council has been holding meetings in my neighborhood because they want to spend millions of dollars to alter the Eagle River in the Edwards "lake" Section from somewhere just downstream of the Edwards Mile to the Shit Plant boat launch.
They want to increase the flow of the river by dredging out deeper channels in the main flow areas, add bouders, bank stabilazation, habitat strainers, er logs. They also want to improve access for fishing, boating, and other recreational use.
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this project yet. I'm still on the fence. I haven't been totally convinced about the motivation for the project yet. The Council is seeking funds that are available to help restore the watershed from damage from the mine. I haven't figured out how the mine caused the "problems" that are supposed to be solved (low gradient = slow flat water that is warm and shallow). Anyways, I'm trying to learn as much as I can since it is in my backyard, and I make my living and play in this river. I'd like to hear your thoughts about this project and others like it. Is it best for the river and the people around it? Is it effective? Is this the best use of the cleanup money? Will the project disrupt the watershed, or help it? What do you think? If you are interested, please attend the following meeting:

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is hosting a second public meeting seeking feedback on the project proposals during the preliminary review period. The Eagle River Watershed Council is seeking $2 million for the Edwards Eagle River Restoration Project out of the entire $3.6 million funds.
A total of $2.4 million is available this final grant period for restoration and replacement of natural resources damaged or lost within the Eagle River basin as a result of the release of hazardous substances from the Eagle Mine. Please join us to
find out the latest project details and to get a closer look at the Edwards
Eagle River restoration plans and designs. We hope to see you there!
