Durango Creeks Questions

A few of us are coming down for a week May 21-29.

Planning on doing Piedra, Animas, Dolores for sure. Wanted to post some questions about other runs in the area.

1.) Is the road into the 3rd Gorge of Lime open? What is the nature of this section? Is there still a tree in there somewhere? I read last year that there's a evil, nasty, sneaky tree that wants to hurt our precious. . .of course we'll take the usual wood precautions, but is it still there and anything that would identify leading up to it? And is that first V+ drop a sneaker, too?

2.) Is Hermosa Creek worth it if you're visiting for a week?

3.) Where's the sweet surf section on Upper Dolores?

Many thanks to anyone who can answer any of these questions.

There is not a road but a good hike down to the 3rd gorge and yep there is some lumber and there is going to be lots more in the next few weeks as the water is starting to rock!! There will be some folks around that can answer the wood question more and another thing that might happen by that time is the water may be huge on lime??? So check with the locals.

The upper animas has a few slides across the river that are huge!!!! So I would say that it is still snowed in!!! Rockwood is good to go. Hermosa is a lumber yard!! and still way snowed in.
Stop in at Four Corners river sports and they will give you directions to the Dolores surf...And more info on Lime......
Hope this helps a bit. Piedra is good to go........

-Had two friends do the upper saturday. One ice bridge one mile down.
-The trail to 3rd gorge lime probably close to open but purg still has plenty of snow on all the north facing stuff. Maybe in a week or two. You will know when you get to the V+. As for wood...icebridge..? flow is going to be big. be ready to pull over in a hurry down there. post it when you do it.
