Driving to middle fork from Denver: I-70 or I-80?

Any opinions? Looking to do it the fastest way, but not opposed to a little longer if its a much better ride. Mapquest says I-25 to I-80 and across wyoming to SLC is the way to go, the two routes look the same from there. Looks like I-70 west to SLC is the same ballpark mileage, but mapquest says it takes an extra hour or more. Seems like this would be a more scenic drive.

If going the I-80 route, a good option is to take State Highway 30 to the north from just west of Green River. This is fast (east to go 70), pretty scenic, and takes you through Kemmerer, Montpelier, etc. before hitting I-15 just south of Pocatello. You can even stop for a soak at Lava Hot Springs.

ian - do you really need to inundate mnt buzz with your request of where to drive - really now - when i'm looking for excuses not to work, and check the buzz for the 50th time this hour, i really am looking for photos, carnage stories, beta, trip reports, hazards, and maybe some good ol fasion shit talking -

come on now....how about some more stories of chasing people down dowd/gore, or something to that effect....(i'd even take the discussion of golden versus boulder eye candy instead of driving directions) - try www.mapbuzz.com

Yo Steve! Agreed. Thanks for calling me out on possibly the most boring post on the buzz. I'll come back with some fun middle fork stories and make up for it.

Just got back from there a week ago. What a great trip at 5.5 ft! Part of our group take I 80 to SLC and then up, some took I 80 to Highway 30. I'm not sure of a time difference. If you take the route to SLC and have a bit of time to spare, check out the falls at Twin Falls , ID

Don't miss the short hike to the grotto at Nugget Creek (Parrot Cabin) mile 87.9

PM me if you need any info.

I think this is a reasonable question of the buzz to ask "how do I get to Idaho the fastest?" Idaho is a good place to go.

I-70 through SLC has two problems: first there is that cut off from I-70 to I-15, which is real slow. The second problem is traffic in SLC. You are essentially driving 50mph for 4+ hours and it's not easy driving.

Put on some tunes, set the cruise control to 80, and take I-80.

I-25 to Ft Collins, 287 to Laramie, I-80 to (I think) I-84, to I-15 is how we did it last year. I'd say it was the fastest.
