Draining of Old Dillon Res.?

Draining of old Dillon res. will be underway soon, if not already. Does anyone know if this might translate into higher levels downstream?

any idea how or why they are planning on draining it? i did hear that they wanted to enlarge it. i wouldnt imagine that it would have any effect on the flow in the blue as it is quite small.

Supposedly the dead and dying pine trees in the surrounding area could fall into the res. and degrade the dam to the point that it could fail. Seems like an extreme "doomsday" type scenario to me. They have been wanting to expand for some time. Maybe this is just a good reason to expedite the project.
Does this drain into the main reservoir?

Old Dillon Res is pretty small. They are talking about siphoning out the water over a two week or so period. I doubt that it will make much of a difference to the Blue below Dillon Dam.

From the Summit Daily article: "And with a storage capacity of only 46 acre-feet, compared to the 255,000 acre-feet contained in the “new” Dillon Reservoir, the threat of a breach is more cause for concern than alarm, he added."

so it's two separate water masses we're talking here? i didn't know the res was split into a new and an old. i thought it was one big happy family. i was all excited about Bailey levels being bumped up, but "Old" Dillon doesn't appear to affect Bailey levels. right?
