Downieville California... Kayakers paradise...

A friend of mine recently purchased the Downieville Inn. His name is Aaron Fabish and he is a boater himself and is doing some real cool things to accomodate kayakers... He doesn't get on the net much, so I told him that I would post a note on the Buzz to advise anyone heading that way of what a cool resource he is creating.

Basically part of the original hotel purchase came with a shuttle van/service for the Mt Bikers interested in doing the Downieville Downhill (a 20 mile pure downhill single track insane run!!!). Well, recently he has made that service available for kayakers and it really makes things easy.

The Downieville Inn, http://www.dvinn.com, is literally at the confluence of the NF Yuba and Pauley/Lavazolla. From your hotel room you are 50 feet away from the takeout/put in of 4 kick ass Class III to V runs of your choice. From STEEP low volume Pauley/Lavazolla to river running the NF Yuba, it's all right there! There are also about 15 other runs within 30 minutes of Downieville.

Aaron can shuttle you up the hill to the put in of NF Yuba's Sierra City run, or Pauley and Lavazolla or pick you up at the take out of Good Years Bar. It really makes taking just one car for the weekend really easy.

Anyone interested should contact him at afaibish@yahoo.com.

Enjoy

Oh the irony,

I just spent my spring break in Downieville. We went to do the whole CA thing and found out that CA is impossible to in one week. So, after an totaly high water run on the GIant Gap (NF American) we went to the Yuba drainage. Downineville is truely the center of this area. The craw isn't shitin' when he says the Inn is 50 feet away from the take out. Also, little town is what a true mtn. town is supposed to be (unlike the tourist trap towns in CO, please don't flame me I lived in Summit Co for 10 yrs). We went on to paddle 5 days in this area. We paddled everything from low volume steeps to big water class V drops (Maytag!!) to CA classics (SF Yuba, 49 to Bridgport). We talked with the Inn people, the girl was real nice. Their van is the shit. If anyone can make it that way, I highly recommed the trip. Super great paddlin, super killer camping, and super nice people. And if it rains there is always room at the Inn.

I love Downieville!! Great old mining town and Pauley and Lavasolla creeks are awesome! Glad to hear there is a shuttle for kayakers now.

Under "Kayaking California My '02" there are some pics of Pauley and Lavasolla. http://community.webshots.com/album/39365471nSDsaN[/url]
