Donations needed for new gates at Confluence Park, Denver

Front Range Paddling Association (FRPA) is playing host for the 2007 North American Junior Olympics Whitewater Championships, June 24th through July 7th.

However, FRPA needs to raise $5,000.00 to build slalom gating for the course. The gates need to be in place by mid to late March.

I am coughing up $200.00 out of my pocket to contribute towards the $5,000.00 goal. So that leaves $4,800.00.

I know all you river rats and betties out there can help FRPA reach their goal. FRPA is a Non-profit organization. Please help!

Contact: Christopher Wiegand at Front Range Paddle Association- Director
Lafayette, Colorado USA. Phone: 720.205.9092 for details on how to donate, or visit their website at: http://www.whitewaterracing.org

You can also email Chris at: chris@wiegand.com

Let's make this happen!

as I understood
we would speek of this issue
only in haiku...

"Nefarious act
of asshat bro-brah playaz
Left us without course

Olympian need
Where once gates hung there are none
Give us cash, bitches

A five with three "O"s
is the required amount
that you must cough it"

Badass...

yeah...

we need the fundage
without gates, the race will suck,
no medals for thee.

So it is not much,
that we seek for kids to shine,
glory days ahead.

I'm gonna contact them

I'll fill it out and submit to the local Moe's and see what happens, but it would be nice to get a call from Chris saying he's got money rolling in from all you rats and betties

Hyde,
I'm clear that new gates need to be purchased at the Confluence.
I'm fuzzy on something else:
1) Were the old gates sufficient but "Kenda" ripped them down; or
2) The old gates sucked and needed replacing anyways.

If it is related to number 1, it sounds like there is an problem and someone has to face more accountability than a simple apology on the 'Buzz. More info please. . .

Gates

Totally different gates. The Gates Kendo took down would have come down anyway.

clarity

The gates that Kenda ripped down were test gates put up by Chris for getting ideas on placement for the course layout. The ones still there I believe are the test gates, and yes, they suck.

The money will go to putting in a more permenent system of gates that would be on a pulley system so they can be moved out of the way or reconfigured. I believe part of the ICF/IOC rules are that racers can train on any configuration of the gates, except the race day configuration. So, yeah, we need a nice gate system.

Cool. Are there kayak companies outside of the big ones (Pirahna, Dagger, LL, Wavesports, etc) that specifically manufacture slalom boats?

$5000 is alot to raise on the buzz. Perhaps you should look to corporate sponsors like these companies, or industry related to foot some of the bill in exchange for major sponsorship placement during the event.

Also - might look at New Belgium Brewery, Dales Pale Ale, Coors, etc. Some of them (particularly Coors) have big pockets and might shell out in exchange for beverage rights during the event.

My $0.02.
