Here is more info. you guys are way to nice to these greedy anti-environmentalists.

From: San Juan Citizens Alliance

The Dolores Water Conservancy District unveiled a proposal to construct a new dam on Plateau Creek, a major Dolores River tributary. Their primary goal is to maintain the current allocations for agriculture from McPhee Reservoir, while satisfying Bureau of Reclamation demands for a more consistent and reliable water release for the non-native recreational fishery. All of the proposed storage is to eliminate 'spill', the high season flows that replenish downstream waterways and are enjoyed by recreational paddlers.

The primary dam is proposed for 20,000 acre feet storage on Plateau Creek, a tributary to McPhee Reservoir. This would serve as storage for water that is normally part of the spill when McPhee is full. Cloud seeding, which has already proven to be hotly controversial in the area, is proposed to increase the water available for recreational boating to make up for the lost snowmelt.

The proposal expands irrigation of land, citing a need to preserve agriculture as a primary purpose. Wasted and unused water is a problem evaluated in a Trout Unlimited / Environmental Defense study recently completed by the Denver engineering firm Hydrosphere.

Thanks Justyn

Thanks Justyn for posting on Mountainbuzz! You must have talked to Kara to find this site. FYI - Justyn is the Kara Lamb of the Western Slope. Kara has done a fantastic job keeping boaters up to date with all the operations coming out of the GP Region, hopefully, you can do the same for all of the UC Region's operations.

Don't let people like Mania discourage you! Dana- send me an PM or email and I can tell you a little more. Get a lot of advice from Kara if you need it. Thanks again and welcome to the community!
