Whitewater addicts -
As many of you know, lots of Grand County water is piped east through the Moffat Tunnel (on the Fraser River) and Windy Gap (on the Colorado River) projects to supply Front Range residents. Currently about 60% of the Upper Colorado is diverted. There are two proposals on the table to expand these projects, resulting in only about 20% of the rivers' historic flows being left for rafting and kayaking, fishing, agriculture and wildlife. Most of that water would be diverted during the summer months - the best months for boating.
The Defend The Colorado Campaign is pushing the water diverters to be more responsible about their withdrawals, asking that there is consistent water available for recreation and wildlife throughout the year, as well as adequate flushing flows and reserve water for critical times.
I would appreciate it if you would take a minute and head over to the Defend The Colorado website
, where you will find a petition for the EPA and water suppliers, as well as Liking our Facebook site
All of us are concerned with Colorado's rivers - and however you use or enjoy them, we all can take part in protecting what is left - before its too late.
Thanks! See ya out on the water!
