Death On the San Miguel?

Very sad news arround town this morning. Just heard a 13 year old boy died on the miguel. Don't have any real details. I think it happened at mile marker 87. Anyone know details. I was out of town on the gunny for the weekend. My condolences to the family.

Sorry to hear about that. We were on the ledges yesterday (Sun) and heard about a raft accident that morning. As we were driving back we saw a raft wrapped on a boulder in the middle of the river on the section above the Norwood Hill bridge. A couple cops were parked near the scene with lights flashing. We didn't know it was that bad.

We had a bad day on the river ourselves that day; See my post -Warning - San Miguel - Ledges.

Take Care out there.

????

Where are you recieving your information about a death. Be careful which rumors you begin spreading without any viable info.

No death on San Miguel

Confirmed information. There was no death yesterday on the Miguel, just a rescue.

Any news information about this?
Near misses should also be reported to AW (which is why I ask).

I talked with Rooster (a BLM river ranger) about the incident. Nobody was hurt.

I also talked with him about the incidents at the low-head dam. Dane, if you are interested in a serious safety issue - this is the one.

Last Sunday we ran the Miguel and had two very close calls at the low head Dam on the canyon section below the Norwood hill. Both were Kayakers, one hardshell and one inflatable that got sucked into the hydrolic behind the weir. Both had to be rescued by throwbag and one was just in time as the swimmer had been in the hole several minutes. Kudos to Dan and fellow boaters for being on top of it. Remember to stay river left when running this pour over. River was running about 1200 cfs. Be safe! CB
