Options
River left is the way to run this dam. However I would also recommend a portage on the right side of the river. Have spoken at length with the landowner (who is the previous landowners son), and he is fine with boaters portaging around this hazard on his land. He just asks that if you have to open a gate, please close it. I would seriously reccomend this option, as low head dams are no joke. But hey boat at your own risk.
