I see stuff like this all the time. I saw four or 5 kids in the Eagle yesterday on some kind of a pool raft or something without life jackets. It is amazing that more tubers/kmart rafters/kids don't get killed than already do.

Part of our responsibiliy as the informed river community is to watch out for the ill-prepared folks on the river. Keep those throw bags handy, and try to educate people when you see the inevitable tubers/kmart rafters etc putting in above that low-head dam/strainer/keeper hole/undercut rock....

More Info

There has been a lot of info on the web about this. check out www.chieftain.com or www.koaa.com. Also there is talk about the fault of the drowning is due to the park and should be locked up, as well as a few other remarks that I would greatly disagree with. The matress was stamped "do not use in water".
