dam to lee's ferry hiking beta

Anyone know any hiking beta from the dam to lee's ferry? Some friends are doing a 2 night trip in duckies and are looking for some big hikes.

Yeah, you can get a boat ride to the top for about $50 plus some gear from some company in Page. They are coming from Escalante, utah, kane gulch and Moab.

where is Kane Gulch, UT?

been to kane gulch ranger station but i didnt think there was residential developments on cedar mesa yet......

waterholes canyon dumps in about halfway on the left in this stretch, but i think its got a lot of technical canyoneering. you may be able to get up a little bit of it from the bottom, probably to the last of the raps. dont remember any major canyons or possible side hikes on the right, or anywhere else until right around Lee's Ferry. This canyon is very incised into a pretty serious block of navajo sandstone and just isnt geologically favorable to side canyons until the last mile above LF where the canyon opens somewhat. good luck, water is super clear and cold, bring a fishing pole!

Its only a residential development if you're a ranger there.

I've done some research as regards fishing.

Call the guys at the visitors center at the dam. They were very informative. I do not think the hiking is known to be exceptional. The fishing and scenery looks amazing.

Waterholes is the only canyon really hikable in this section. You can recognize it on the opposite side (East, river left) of a large beach and at a large horseshoe bend to the right. You'll be able to hike up about 1/3 mile to a 25 foot cliff. You can probably still see an indent of my ass where I had to leap off this drop after getting my ropes stuck on the big drop above. If you are clever, you can chimney up a water groove to the left, but it's sketchy, and you could wind up stuck in the big bowl beneath it. Above this section, you can only go another couple hundred yards until you run into the Navajo drop. 300 ft rappel when coming from above. I've been through Waterholes a canyon. Have fun!
