Cross Mountain

My friend and I are thinking about paddling Cross this weekend. I have never paddled it and was hoping to get some info on it. He rafts and I kayak. Is this a pretty good level for both? Is the play good at this level? How long does it take to get to from Denver? Good camping? Can we do laps on it or is the shuttle long?

Thanks,

Scot

I would think a raft at 1200 would suck. That is a pretty low level in there. Kayaking would be fine.

long ass drive. 4 hours give or take from d-town. It can easily be done a few times in a day even for your first time.

I've posted several image galleries of Cross here: http://www.blueskywest.com/summer/daily_images.htm

You'll have to scroll thru and find those image links. Galleries are from trips on mostly bigger water than you'll find this weekend, which I'd predict about 800 cfs in the Canyon. Cross is similar to the Royal Gorge with regards to flow and rapid dynamics at those flows. I've guided rafts in there till about 500 cfs, which is low water for sure, but always fun.
