Creeking with a Unibomber?

I have a Bomber Gear Unibomber (one piece drytop/spray skirt). Someone expressed concern about creeking in this because the waist is not tight like a regular setup and "might" fill up in the event of a swim or a good hole trundeling.

Does anyone have any experience with these one piece tops? I think mountainsurf made them in the past.

I love this thing. My boat and myself are drier than ever. Super quick on/off and very comfortable. I guess I might go for a trial swim to check it out.

I wouldnt recomend creeking in a dry deck.

I have on several occasions simply becaus that is all that i had but it is definatly not the safest option, Not because it will fill with water.....you should be wearing your Pfd tight enough to make it not that big of a deal, if your swimming you will get wet regadless of what you wear, the real danger with creeking in a drydeck is if you get pinned across the cockpit, by a log rock or anything that might stop you from pulling your skirt, if this happens your are essinatly trapped in the boat, if you are wearing a 2 piece set up then you can swim out of the skirt and then you are free with a drydeck this is not the case.

hope that helps.

I had a buddy that got his skirt snagged on a log while swimming in the Poudre years ago. It poked through the neoprene and hung up on the bungee rand (as I said, this was a while ago). He had to pull out of his skirt to swim off the log.

For what that's worth- but it can happen. Definitely carry a knife on your vest to cut yourself away if need be.

Parker,

I too wear a unibomb and the thing is the BEST EVER in regards to dry, super comfy (nothing to strap around your waist) and easy.

I do creek in it, but have been warned by Clay Wright and other much more hard core boaters than myself that the log across the bow (ie, over your skirt) thing not only can happen, but apparently does happen and in that situation, you are screwed.

My preference is to use the more common two piece setup when doing REALLY tough runs where I know I could be in a tight situation. When river running and playboating the Unibomb is the ONLY way to go.

My 2cents...
