Costa Rica: Exploradores Outdoors

Ya, another CR question.

The wife and I will be heading down in February. Plan to do a two day Pacuare trip. She'd raft, I'd kayak. Exploradores Outdoors looks pretty decent. I'm wondering if anyone has used them before or has any recommendations on other outfitters. We'd ideally like to use one that will pick you up in SJ and take you back. I've also checked out Rio Tropicales, but evidently they stopped buying boats when the Dancer came out and they don't provide any other gear.

Even though it's the dry season, I'm assuming they still get some rain to keep the rivers flowing?

Also might hit up the Savegre, anyone done it?

The Savegre is fun and worth going to. Plus Dominical is only 45 minutes away. Go with Rafiki Lodge. Your wife will love the place, and so will you, and the guides may also show you some creeks in the area.

Check out Costa Rica Rios...http://www.costaricarios.com/

I used them about 7 years ago and they had quite a nice selection of kayaks. Plus there lodging has gotten better as well.

Cheers.

Thanks, I've heard a lot of great things about Rafiki as well. We'll probably stay there for a couple days.

Anyone else?

couple of ideas

ask Loki at Rafiki to take you on the SuperLekker... it's a horse assisted hike way up to the headwaters, so you paddle a section that's only been run a few times

we did it at Easter last year and it's truly an amazing trip, only for those with a sense of adventure (3 hour hike, 2 hour paddle)

also you might want to check our new web forum Costa Rica Creeking - Whitewater Forum

for more beta and possible partners

the deal with the rafting is probably a good one... I own a small rafting company in CR and can tell you allowing a kayaker to tag along is a risky proposition, so the fact that Miguel is allowing it is a good deal in and of itself, check with them well in advance and make sure the logistics are worked out for you
