Costa Rica Beta

I am starting to think about a solo trip to Costa Rica to kayak. Looking for Class IV runs. Can anyone give me any advice on when/where to go and the best way to hook up with other boaters. Are there any "guide" type outfits that can be recommended?

Old thread but beta on runs and some locations, it seems there are always south of the border companies that will usually chime in as well:

Turrialba's a good place to hook up with boaters.

The Toro, Sarapequi, ocean-surfing on the black sand beaches, and a night in Arenal are all good things to put on your list. Chasing Jagaurs: The Complete Guide to Costa Rican Whitewater: Lee Eudy: Books

Check out the Hotel Interamericano, where Luis can set you up with a guide.

I was just in Costa Rica in December/ January and I went with the outfitting company Costa Rica Rios. Its a great company with the best equipment, guides, and river camps. I would recommend the week of rivers where all 7 days are spent on the rivers instead of the week of adventure where only 3 days are spent on the rivers. The Pacure will be the river with the most IV white-water. Most of the guides there have been guiding forever and most of them guide Costa Rica in the our winter their summer and the Ottawa River and various rivers in California and Colorado. One of their guides, Pablo, I ran into at Gleenwood a few weeks back just throwing down. I would highly recommend Costa Rica Rios.
