Coming To Colorado In Early June

Hey everyone, I'm new to Mountain Buzz. I live way out in Virginia. I have some buddies in New Castle and I'm coming out to kayak June 11th. My friends don't Kayak so I am gonna rely on my fellow western boaters for some advice. I am going to bring all my gear on the plane. I think I am gonna rent a kayak and paddle from Glenwood Canyon Kayak and maybe get some ideas from those guys of what would be good runs for me. Hopefully I will get hooked up with some local boaters. I am a class 4 paddler. I have ran rivers and a few creeks, my latest run being Wilson Creek Gorge in North Carolina. I hear the snow melt is gonna be killer!

This summer should be good. How long are you gonna be out here? My top class 4 runs are:
Numbers/pine creek, upper east, baily, lower clear creek, upper clear creek, clear creek of the ark (kind of many 4-4+), 3rd gorge lime (rockwood gonna be 5-), dowd shoot(3-4) lots of good shit out here. Once it gets closer just post again and you will have no trouble finding people to boat with, or you could just go to the ark or poudre and find plenty of people to boat will.

Send a message via AIM to COUNT
Since they're close, throw in Barrel Springs, Shoshone, and maybe Westwater at high flows, too.

I'd also add:
  • Gunny Gorge - dam release, but with the snowpack they might have to keep flows up (III+)
  • Piedra should last into June (IV)
The full list is here: Kayaking Information

Thanks Man!

I'll be out there about 5 days. A little kayaking, a little camping, and a lot of beer is the plan! I'll post again a couple of weeks before I leave. Later Russ.

One month

I will be out there in a month and staying in New Castle. I am going to rent a kayak from Glenwood Canyon Kayak shop. I think I want some class III+ action because I hear that the water is gonna be big and what we in the southeast call class 4 you guys call 3s. Any suggestions? I need somebody to paddle with also. Later Russ
