Colorado Springs - play spot

I just moved to Colorado Springs and went for a run yesterday along the path next to the "river". Behind Colorado College there were a number of small drops. Does anyone know if these form small hole/waves or anything?

I've also heard you might have to avoid small brown "logs" floating down the river.

So anyway whats the deal with it. Also are there any other local playspots people have found?

Patrick
