I was driving over North Pass today and stopped in Cochetopa Canyon roadside to highway 114 and did a little scouting. I saw lots of continous III/IV creeking. Does anyone know if it ever gets boated? It reminded me of the Conejos and got me fired up.
Only the first couple of miles looked good, below this it filled with wood and beaver dams...but I was thinking putting on at the Coleman Easement near the confluence of Archuleta, Cochetopa and Los Pinos creeks and boating down to the first roadside access point. Might make a 6-7 mile run.
The gauge only says 37 cfs right now, but it looked like the gauging station is downstream of a diversion or two. The visual level almost appeared high enough to boat.
Here are a few pics I snapped:
I think I might head back in a couple of weeks and get it done...any info anyone has about the area would be greatly appreciated.
