If there's any creekers headed down to the Ark valley before Clear Creek comes up, you might want to think about cutting the log out of the first gorge. I'd love to do it, but I'm three hours away and have no plans to head in that direction until something like Clear Creek is raging. (I'll be sure to do my part around here.)
The log would be near the end of the first gorge after the main hole, after the right turn, on the left in the hole that is the shelf that you do the last boof off of. Normally, you would boof off the center of the flake and the log would be just to your left. However, if you get pushed left, it is a big issue. I saw two swims and one very bad pin (log in the chest) there last year and it would be great to have it out.
Just something to consider if you are headed out that way and plan to do this run later in the year.
I'm sure that river right log is there. It's definitely less accessable than the one joel is talking about. It's also the hardest move on the creek, but not in the main flow like the one in the first gorge. The one in the first gorge reset my nose after i broke it when my play boat fell from my roof. One more instance that proves the only reason to own a play boat in colorado is to get good enough to go creeking.
That would be really cool to get that hazzard out of there. I agree its worth making the effort.
Livingston... do you want to hit Lake Creek on Saturday? We could climb down and see if we can drag that wood out of Clear creek as well?

just to clarify, the log on the right that livingston mentions is at the death ferry with a room of doom kinda thing behind it - I would consider this to be just above the first gorge that is easily scouted from the road, because there is another eddy after this move and before the first gorge. Maybe it's just my adrenaline imagination, but I think that log is huge and would require a chainsaw. It's a little better underneath that log since somebody cut out some of the branches that were hanging down into the river, a couple years ago. But even if we got it out of there, you'd want it out of the river period, because it would just go clog something else up. And then of course the move wouldn't be nearly as intense.
if you guys go after the log on the left (the one we want), you might want a handsaw. It might be up to five or six inches in diameter, and it's been in there for a while, so it might be wedged under some rocks pretty good.
Should be close to the shore though.
I hate that log by the ferry at the top of the first gorge, had an encounter with it last year. I was thinking about doing a low water numbers run or playing in the new hole at BV on sunday. I have 2 chainsaws to contribute to the cause but we might need some hefty ropes chains and a comealong/winch to remove the big log or get it to where we can cut it up small. call or email me if you are interested 719-205-2593 Corey
I am no longer heading up thataway.... Sorry for the misleading, but my crew are now heading to the narrows...
I am out the following weekend in Cali, but would love to be part of removing both of those (can't remember the uper one? Only the one at the bottom of the first real rapid on the left. That thing is just dangerous.
If anyone is going for it... GOOD ON YOU!!!

Anyone who is runnin Bailey please take a trap in there and get one of them Beavers you are all talkin about - Take them up to the real clear creek and let her go!
You are right Clear Creek needs one - The reason that all them logs get caught in that one section on is that it is a avy chute - shit gets pushed down there every year - we need a beaver to take up this project. I would love to hunt one down but if i get a second the log in NIMBY is first in my sights.
