Clear Creek Near Lawson Beta

Heading up to CC near Icaho Springs tomorrow after work. Lawson to Dumont looks fun. Post run throwdown at Lawson Hole makes this especially appealing. Any hazards aside from the culverts below Lawson Hole? Is it worth continuing to Fall River? How about Idaho Springs. Yeah, I lost my CRC (Actually I think the dog hid it so she would get some attention) What stretches are fun, what stretches are not so fun? All Class III/IV boaters.

the run is fun all the way to Ho springs (depending on how cold it is)
2 of the better drops are close to town.

no hazards though.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. Run the play boat or run the river boat?

I just looked at Shane's blog. Damn, I'm so psyched to get on the water tomorrow, I think I'll bring my paddle up to the office.

I definately like the spud for lawson better, but I like my playboat for a lot of runs most would disagree with!

for your first time I guess a bigger boat would be better.

I just did this run. Lawson to Dumont is a hoot with the high water. Lot's of action. Pay attention to the holes. A playboat will get pushed around and may well be flipped end over end.

The section above Idaho Springs is also pretty good. Watch out for the holes.

I would call it class IV+. Not much danger except for a long swim. Some shallow sharp rocks, but that's the Front Range.

The Lawson hole is pretty good. Oh, I forgot--it's called the L-hole now.

DanO 's got me confused isn't the Lawson hole below 6 pipes?Or is it in the stretch from Extra Pussy to 6 Pipes?

Kaleb is Coors Falls doable now, what is a good level to run it your first time?

Lawson to Dumont has some great fish-ladder type water. Most of the holes are just fun, but there are a few that will get your attention if you are sitting back in the seat. It is pretty continous. From Dumont through I.S. is a great class IV run. Not much to worry about. There are some big holes you won't want to be near, but they are easy to spot and even easier to skirt. If you have the time, I recommend running from Lawson down into I.S.

Enjoy!

Cayo, you've got me laughin! Am I going boatin today or to some sort of brothel...birth control hole, L-Hole, Extra Pussy? I guess I better lube it up with a little KY to be safe.

Rock n roll, gonna be a fun afternoon. With water at this level, we'll be passing trucks on I-70 as we float on in to Idaho Springs.

Thanks for the beta all. This is what makes Mtn Buzz. Cheers-

Lawson to Dumont starts off with some drops and then some consistant boogie with a drop at the end. After som e flat water (at the truck weigh in station), then a series of drops "fish ladder" that are staight forward and some worthy of a boof.

The rest of the run (Dumont to IS) Has about 3 to 4 notable rapids. The last one being "Outerlimits". This is worth a scout. It's at the end of the run when you come into IS. On the IS exit (going WB on 70) there is a dirt pull off and a pool above the drop. At this level there is a good size wave/hole in this rapid. I got worked on this rapid at this level but got flushed and it wasn't too dramatic. The run is really fun, enjoy...
