Chilko River, Lava Canyon

Looking for information on Lava Canyon on the Chilko in British Columbia. I am planning a trip there in August/September and wondering if it is really Class V. One book makes it sound pretty gnarley, but other descriptions make it sound much more like Class IV. Looking at a mixed bag of cats, rafts and kayaks. Anyone with firsthand knowledge they want to share please chime in. Might be looking for people to go as well.

heh ... be careful with BC classs V. If Betty Pratt-Johnson calls it V, it might be IV-V. If it's up the fraser drainage, it might be V. If it's new, in sea-to-sky corrridor, or your getting your beta from Stuart Smith, V is V and then some.

After seeing some BC V, lots of WA V is pansy ass III+. And I am a II boater.

I think Tommy Hilleke mentioned some rules about boating in BC -- they were spot on.
