Jeff, you should bring a chainsaw and bolt cutters and remove all the strainers (bridges) so you can have a safe run!

I didn't see any barbed wire fence at University....maybe the water was over it??? Nobody said anything in the country club...probably because we didn't see anybody. It had been raining so much, no one was out. There were a couple small drops, but mostly a few play spots. It was just fun to paddle through the city....a little urban kayaking if you will.....I don't like to do it that often but paddling through a city is pretty unusual for me and it just makes me laugh....especially when I'm throwing ends while people are sitting in traffic. I paddled a couple urban runs in Atlanata during floods....Sweetwater, Sope and Rottinwood creeks. Just something to do when it's flooding.

Ever notice how urban creeks flood easily or at least run bankfull more than 1-2 times per year....it's because as the city sprawls, we put in more roads, parking lots, concrete, houses, buildings, etc., basically making the surface impervious to water. So when it rains on these asphalt drainages, the creeks and rivers go off. Pretty good or gruesome thought, depends on how you look at it.

Johnny Water -
My next question is: do you get "confluenza" from kayaking Cherry Creek? It seems cleaner than the Platte, but not by much.

I've "scouted" the whole thing during my bike rides and there looks like a ton of play, fun rocky drops, and even a water slide. I'd be up for doing it.

Also - can you run confluence at this level? looks like fun waves, but sort of shallow.

Dempsey - no chainsaw. I'm liable to cut my arm off or something.

I wouldn't recommend running Cherry Creek unless it is at 500-1000...even then it's not that great, but if nothing else is running and you feel like getting some play...i would put on around broadway for an extended run for confluence and the skate park wave.....just be prepared to portage as some of those foot bridges could kill you for sure.

Conversation overheard recently on Cherry Creek--

--Wow, did you see that? I rolled just in time, or I'da gotten pinned by that shopping cart-- What? There's a bird in my ear? Oh, a TURD! Sorry, couldn't hear you so good. Hey, bra, check out those chicks shooting up under that bridge-- are they watching us? Whoa! Watch out for that couch floating by! Dude, I'm kinda hungry. Whadaya say we stop and get some pizza slices and Mountain Dew? Man, this urban paddling is great. I can't believe we have this all to ourselves. Let's keep it quiet, or all the gapers will come out and be SO in the way-- Dude, check the racoon! He must have been dead for weeks! That's the biggest 'coon balloon I've ever seen!

Cherry Crk. is not that skanky. The shopping cart is in the class 3 rapid under the Wadsworth bridge,on the town run of Clear Crk.
Once I was playing at Tressle rapid at 650 ,a level the joe pros deem unworthy, anyway there was a rat riffling thru a plastic sack that I assumed was trash.I began splashing wter at the rat with my paddle, all the sudden some squibbed out crackhead/junkie dude bolts out of the 4 ft. in diameter sewer pipe and snatches up the sack.Apparently he was pissed that i spashed his stuff, but didn't care if a rat went thru it.

Ahhh, what are you guys thinking boating there! Jeff, see what happens when you move to 303? Shopping carts, trolls in sewer pipes, and shit. Sounds like some kind of video game.

Word! It's like Grand Theft Auto - Mile High City.

Any future considerations of hitting confluence or Cherry Creek have effectively been deflated. What the hell were you doing on Mtn Buzz at 5:44 am on Monday morning anyways?
