Cheesman Canyon

It appears to be running with 357 cfs. How long might this last? The AW page mentions a 24 hr notice to SP. Would a heads up at noon work for a run the following day? Any pertinent beta from paddlers who have run it in the last few years would be appreciated.

Grif for President!

Ken, I think flows will continue to be up for tomorrow and potentially in to the weekend. The upper south platte watershed has been getting rained on every day for several days. The upper reservoirs are full and they are bypassing inflows. With rain in the forecast for today, I would expect similar flows on the cheeseman and eleven mile runs tomorrow. Not 100% sure as the upper stuff is operated by aurora, and I don't have a good contact there, but this is what the denver water folks told me.

Never done cheesman, but beta I have heard is lots of sieves and a tough hike out. Gotta call the SP folks to get them to shuttle you to the river. From what I've heard, 350 is a good flow. Also, I think the latest SP protocol is either on AW or maybe search back through the buzz.

Most of the flow is coming down the MF, go to:
Detail Graph

No reservoirs on the MF, so that flow must be rain runoff.

The flow from Antero has also be increased, go to:

That's mostly true cadster, not completely true. Montgomery Reservoir is on the Middle Fork and is operated by Colorado Springs, but it's in the very upper reaches though. Though it isn't exactly pertinent in this case. Also, it doesn't matter that much, as the Middle Fork also flows into Spinney and then Eleven Mile, so releases still have to come out of those.

Currently, there's 310 in the MF with only 60 from it's reservoir.

Antero has been releasing 70, but that's now coming up.

With 400 coming out of Elevenmile resv, that's a difference of only 20 CFS from 310 + 70.

The MF increase has gotten delayed by several days passing thru Spinney and Elevenmile. See the previous comment about them being full.
