Yep, thats just wrong. They didnt understand what you were asking. Fedex ground will ship boats. Sports Express uses them to ship their boats. Using ground skips the middleman.

I dropped mine at a DHL depot, but it was delivered directly back to my house. Latenightjoneser had his picked up in Steamboat by the DHL guy, I think he arranged it with the driver for the time. Both boats were wrapped in plastic from LL shipping materials, been re-using the same wrapping for several years now.

Maybe try calling again abd don't tell them it is a kayak, just give them dimensions. Some places still freak out over the word kayak.

Sports Express

Sports Express doesn't ship anything. The use Fed Ex and DHL for their shippers. Make sure you're not calling Fed Ex Air- but, Fex Ex Ground they run as seperate companies. They usally will not ship larger boats- like crrek boats- needs to be about the size of a Big EG.

ya i realize they use fedex ground and dhl at sports express. I did use the word kayak when I called them both and they both said they will ship kayaks for businesses, or shipping companies only. And would not do it even though it was a business delivery they would not because it was not a boat company. I now see you have to be sneaky about it for some reason.

Thanks for the info.

I dropped off at the Denver DHL depot, not really considering that they might pick it up for me from my house (I had done a lot of FA before so I was used to going to the depot). When I shipped it back to Denver from Nitro, WV they said of course they would ship it direct to my house.

Can't you just check it in on the plane as baggage? I have yet to do this but thought that you could.

Some airlines yes, some no. If yes, there is a surcharge. Lots of old threads on this here and on BT. At the airport you can also get denied when you least expect it depending on the disposition of the agent. Some folks swear by a twenty and the skycap. I find shipping is plenty easy so I've never tried to fly with it.

Seriously, Ground will carry it. This is the rule.

http://www.fedex.com/us/services/us/ground.html

If you meet those rules and I am pretty sure you do then you will get reliable door to door service and insurance if you want it. If its a playboat you can ship express.
