Chances of getting on a Westwater Trip?

Well I don't have a permit, but I do have a week inbetween jobs. Has anybody had much luck hanging out at the putin waiting to get on a trip? I'd be looking to do a single day trip, as neither of my boats have room for overnight gear.
Also, has anybody squirted Westwater? I've been practicing sitting in my boat all winter, think I can stand seventeen miles.
Thanks for the information.

Miles

with a week in between jobs you ought to be able to get a permit for sun-thurs. as for hopping on a trip, problem is, you cant up your permit # at the put in. call tomorrow before noon.

I also heard you have to call a month ahead for cancellations.

Launch dates become available by phone 2 months before said launch.

These dates become cancelled or available if they are not paid in full one month before the launch date.

Ahhhhhhh that makes sense. My wife and I got a new raft as a wedding present last fall, so this permit thing is all new to me.

I did WW in a low cut Angst in November. It is tough for me to describe the pain and coldness I encountered. I will never do it again in a squirt.
Dress warm.

Steve.
