Just discovered that Greg Schwendinger has added a lots of new pictures and information about boating in northern C A to his website. It is essentially a guidebook in progress for 250 rivers in So. Mexico,Belize,El Salvador,Honduras, and especially Guatemala.Pretty cool format with google earth attachment for locations, table of rivers and ratings some with write ups ,pics, logistics, descent history, and other nearby attractions,outfitters/resources, accomadations, etc.Huge amount of beta!
It is a work in progress and by no means complete. The ratings in the table are very general ie Macal IV,say what, then in the write up it says IV with V'S, V+'s and portages[ guess i'm just used to the way the bible rated things],that pourover in the picture is not bad, ran it once portaged that time. The hole on the otherside of that ledge is nasty[ vid WWW.JESKARPER.ORG]
it's the one labeled 'Macal 1 Jes 0'. Likewise he calls Privassion IV-, about right in general but there are harder drops and 3 massive falls. The falls labeled Privassion is actually Rio On at that point,it is a twin falls the other one is the one I always thought would interest the Gary E'S and Cody Howard's of the world.[ I'll try to post a pic].He had to post a pic of me f'ing up one of the bigger ones on the Moho, couldn't post a pic of running a 12 ftr. properly eh Greg
,grabby travertine but super forgiving. That quadruple falls was unbeknownst to us,now it's a national park with a horse/hike/mtn .bike trail coming in below it on river left.Tons of rivers down there, I've even run parts of 5 he doesn't have listed, granted 3 of those are basically floats with only a few easy rapids.anyhoo Mayan White Water
will be a great resource when people start thinking of tropical trips this fall/winter.
