I'm headed to Ecuador in late Jan 2006 and part of my mission in Ecuador is supporting the Ecuadorian Rivers Institute, ERI. This organization is worthwhile, and is actively making a difference in Ecuador.
Matt Terry runs ERI and after paddling with Matt and spending time seeing how ERI works in Ecuador, I can vouch for how cool of an organization this is, and how much of a real difference ERI is making with the people of Ecuador and the overall awareness of watersheds in Ecuador.
This years Rio Napo festival 13-15 Jan, and the growth of the river conservation movement in Ecuador are coming together to get more indigenous and city folks involved with paddling, learning to paddle and preserving the unique watersheds of Ecuador. The threats to these amazing watersheds are many, and our task is large.
IF you have a spare kayak paddle that you could donate to ERI, please let
me know and lets do whats necessary to get the paddles to me to take down with me this year. Departing 23 Jan 2006.
The paddles will go toward ERI's paddling program teaching kayaking to Ecuadorian youth and adults.
