If the BLM campgrounds are full, which sometimes they are, there is a very cool but urbanized campout spot at the top of the hill that the Fairy Caves is located. Just drive up the road that is directly under the gondola cables and keep going until you get to the top of a ridge. Pretty cool place being able to see both the Canyon and downtown Glenwood. the only downside is ATVers at 4 am, creepers on trucks hauling ass at midnight, and supposedly people with guns (didn't show up last weekend though), oh and Mexicans (not being racist, there were just lots of Mexicans up there). The view at night is quite impressive, and it's a great place to stay at if nothing else is available cause nobody knows much about it. Went up Labor Day and there were only 3 or 4 people camping in the area, with plenty of room to spare. Oh and there's a couch and some other furniture up there so if you are lacking some quality sleeping pads, those will do in a jiffy.
