California boating book

Hey all -

I just started grad school in CA, (central valley area near Sacramento). I am looking for a guide to boating in the area (the California version of the CRC), and people to paddle with -- III+, IV- stuff. Any info would be much appreciated -- ermckenzie@ucdavis.edu

The best guidebook that I know of is stanley and Holbeks' the best whitewater in california. It has a ton of runs. Also check out dreamflows.com for flows and additional info.

check out this site: http://www.cacreeks.com/
its really good even though its written by inflatable kayakers. I think they slightly overrate some runs (like half a class) but the directions and pics are great.
That book is also great. Its pretty old school. But they underrate some runs- for instance, some of the runs they call intermediate or class IV actually have class V drops that they forget to mention. Just keeps you on your toes.

I put links to a bunch of books on my whitewater addiction site - including Cali (see sig for link).

ps. I know Lars and yeah he tends to underrate things.
