The Cresta releases on the North Fork of the Feather River have been cancelled all year. Basically, Pacific Gas & Electric hired a firm to come up with some seriously questionable information about the yellow-legged frog, a "species of concern". So they cancelled all the scheduled releases.
Why you should care: This could set a precedent where all a dam operator has to do is hire someone to dig up some "scientific" data to support their own pre-determined desires, and bingo, the license agreement including releases is voided. If it happens here, it could start to happen all over.
What you can do:
1) Read the artical here to get a bit educated on this issue:
http://www.plumasnews.com/news_story.edi?sid=4493
2) Read the artical here:
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/co.../display/full/ and then write letters & e-mails to all the people listed at the bottom.
3) If have ever been to Plumas County or think you may ever come out, go to the Plumas County Visitor's Bereau website at:
http://www.plumascounty.org/WhatsNew.htm
then go to the "contact us" location & leave a message about how you really wanted to come out & leaves gobs of money in ths county, but now you can't because the releases have been cancelled. Talk of money lost always seems to grab the Board of Supervisors attention, and they may have the clout to get something done.
I know this is mainly a Colorado boater's forum, but we're fighting a death battle here, and all help would be much appreciated...
