We had a blast! The first half mile down from Johnson Village was one huge wave train, stood my 14' paddle raft with 7 person crew straight up. Big fun.
We decided to go down river: East Salida to Vallie Bridge, then Vallie Bridge to Texas Creek. Fun and great scenery to boot.
We took 5 oar rigs down Sunday to check it out before taking inexperienced folks down. I rowed a Super Puma with my wife on board and really enjoyed it. There was one big rapid (Badger creek?) that was fun after I ran it. That was my only oar rig day. I ran a paddle raft from then on.
There was a solid IV just down from Vallie Bridge at 3500cfs, don't know that it has a name. We had a raft flip there. My son (15) flipped his kayak early but rolled up! Perma-Grin! Proud Dad. I was "guide" of the 16' Avon with 7 paddlers, we did OK until I mis-read (first time down, running lead) and hit a huge hole that nearly flipped us, lost one paddler (off the high side: ?)
Two very experienced guys took the big boats down Brown's on Wed at about 3800, had a blast. We took 4 oar rigs down on Friday at about 2600, again had a blast.
I'd planned on taking my kids down the Milk Run Friday but they were ready to just chill out so I never got my kayak wet.
Can't wait till next year.
